Leasing a seven-seat car, models for families and businesses

Seven seats on the registration certificate do not necessarily mean seven comfortable places to sit. In many SUVs, the third row is mainly suitable for children. Raise those seats and the boot may have room for two soft bags, and not much else. A passenger van offers more space, but it is larger, heavier and usually more expensive.

That is why I would not start with the badge. First, answer a simpler question: who will actually sit in the third row, and how often?

A family with four children has different needs from a hotel collecting six passengers from an airport. A fitting and installation company is a different case again: the vehicle carries a crew in the morning, then the seats are folded or removed to make room for tools in the afternoon. The number of seats is the same. Almost everything else is not.

SUV or van? Open the boot and the difference becomes clear

Large SUVs appeal to families because, in everyday use, they drive much like ordinary passenger cars. They are easier to park than a long-wheelbase van, provide a comfortable driving position and do not look like commercial passenger transport.

The third row is their weak point. Models such as the Škoda Kodiaq, Peugeot 5008 and SEAT Tarraco are effectively 5+2 vehicles. The two rearmost seats are useful for school runs, family trips or occasionally carrying extra passengers. An adult who is 185 cm tall is unlikely to enjoy spending three hours back there.

A van is less stylish, perhaps, but more honest about what it can do. The Toyota Proace Verso, Ford Tourneo Custom and Mercedes-Benz V-Class provide proper access to the rear seats, sliding doors and a boot that does not disappear completely when every seat is occupied. For a passenger transport business, this is usually the more practical route.

Ease of access matters too. A high SUV sill will not trouble a fit adult, but it can make life harder for small children or older passengers. Wide sliding doors in a van also provide more room in a tight car park. It sounds minor. After fastening a child into their seat for the hundredth time, it no longer feels that way.

Kodiaq, Tarraco and 5008: the family-friendly 5+2 options

The first-generation Škoda Kodiaq is one of the safer choices on the used family-car market. Not because it is faultless, but because buyers can readily find the right specification, replacement parts and experienced workshops. Vehicles from 2021–2023 typically cost around PLN 110,000–180,000 gross, depending on the engine, drivetrain and mileage.

For drivers covering longer distances, the 2.0 TDI diesel is a sensible option. If the car will mainly be used in town, however, the DPF and SCR emissions systems need to be taken into account. The 1.5 TSI petrol engine is adequate for relaxed driving, but it has little performance in reserve with seven people on board and a roof box fitted. The more powerful 2.0 TSI feels better on the road, although fuel consumption is noticeably higher.

The SEAT Tarraco uses similar technology but is often cheaper than an equivalent Kodiaq. Its cabin feels a little tighter and the suspension is firmer. If the car is intended to serve a family rather than project status outside the office, a well-equipped Tarraco can be a very rational purchase.

The Peugeot 5008 stands out because it has three individual seats in the second row. That is valuable for parents who need to install several child seats. The third row remains an occasional-use solution, but being able to slide each middle-row seat separately makes it easier to divide the available room between passengers and luggage.

With the 1.5 BlueHDi diesel, check the service records and AdBlue system carefully. I would not reject the engine automatically, but buying a car with no documented history introduces unnecessary risk. Used 5008s from 2021–2023 are generally advertised at roughly PLN 90,000–145,000 gross.

A larger SUV for adult passengers

The Kia Sorento, Hyundai Santa Fe and Volvo XC90 offer more room than compact 5+2 designs. They still cannot replace a van, but their third rows are easier to use, especially if the second-row passengers are willing to slide their seats forward.

The hybrid Sorento works well in urban and suburban driving. The plug-in hybrid makes sense only if the driver can charge it regularly. Carrying a heavy battery without plugging the car in means higher fuel consumption and a higher purchase price, with little benefit in return.

The Santa Fe is less common on Poland’s used-car market, but it provides a spacious interior and generous equipment. Check that the specific vehicle is actually the seven-seat version. Not every advert describing a car as a “large SUV” means that it has a third row.

The Volvo XC90 offers high comfort levels, good sound insulation and a broader set of safety systems, but its costs do not end with the monthly lease payment. Tyres, brakes, insurance and servicing for the more complex powertrains can be considerably more expensive than for a Kodiaq. With a used example, it is sensible to keep part of the budget aside for post-purchase maintenance rather than putting every available złoty into the initial payment.

When all seven seats will be used every day

The Toyota Proace Verso, Peugeot Traveller and Citroën SpaceTourer are closely related under the skin. The main differences concern equipment, trim and the availability of specific vehicles. For a business owner, body length may matter more than the badge on the bonnet. A short version is easier to use in town, but it leaves little room for suitcases when every seat is occupied.

The Ford Tourneo Custom offers a highly adaptable cabin and is widely used by both passenger transport operators and service businesses. Used 2021–2023 examples generally cost around PLN 150,000–240,000 gross. Before buying, inspect the seat rails, sliding doors, underbody and interior. A vehicle used intensively for airport transfers may be only a few years old, yet still have endured thousands of door cycles and unusually heavy cabin wear.

The Mercedes-Benz V-Class suits hotels, premium transport operators and owners who expect a finish closer to that of a passenger car. It is comfortable and presents the right image. It will not be cheap. Prices for vehicles a few years old often start at around PLN 200,000 gross, while highly specified long-wheelbase versions can exceed PLN 300,000.

The Volkswagen Multivan feels more car-like to drive, particularly in the T7 generation. Its individually sliding seats are relatively complex, though, and should be tested in person before purchase. They are comfortable, but not everyone will appreciate having to remove and store them.

What to check before signing the lease

Start with the documents. The number of seats shown on the vehicle registration certificate must be correct. It is not enough for the seller to have added seats or for the vehicle to have factory mounting points. The vehicle’s type approval and registration category also need to match its actual configuration.

For a family car, check the number and location of the ISOFIX mounting points. Three seats in the second row do not automatically mean there are three complete ISOFIX positions. The most reliable approach is to bring your own child seats to the inspection and install them before committing to the car.

A passenger transport business should also verify the insurance and finance terms. Paid passenger transport must be disclosed to the finance provider and insurer where required by the contract. A standard policy for a vehicle used by the company owner may not cover commercial transport activity. Depending on the service provided, the business may also need the relevant Polish licences or permits.

The type of sales invoice matters with a used vehicle. For a Polish business, a standard invoice showing 23% VAT is usually clearer from a tax perspective than a VAT margin invoice, as the latter does not show input VAT that can be deducted. This does not mean a margin-scheme vehicle cannot be financed. It simply means the total cost needs to be compared properly.

The finance provider will also look at the vehicle’s age at the end of the agreement. A ten-year-old van may be attractively priced, but not every leasing company will finance it over 60 months. Older vehicles are more likely to require a shorter term, a larger initial payment or different end-of-contract terms.

For international buyers, the vehicle’s planned use and place of registration should be agreed with the finance provider before an application is submitted. A Polish lease may impose restrictions on permanent use or registration abroad, even if occasional travel outside Poland is permitted.

The lease payment is not the full monthly cost

With a seven-seat vehicle, it is easy to focus on the instalment and overlook everything around it. A large SUV or van may require more expensive comprehensive insurance, a set of tyres costing several thousand PLN and a larger fuel budget. Then there are inspections, brakes, automatic transmission servicing and possible repairs to sliding doors or emissions-control systems.

At Carmore, we most commonly arrange operating leases for terms of 24–60 months, with instalments quoted net of VAT. The final offer depends on factors including the vehicle price, initial payment, buyout value, year of manufacture and the company’s financial position. The same Tourneo Custom can be structured with a low monthly payment and a high final buyout, or a higher monthly payment followed by a much smaller amount at the end.

Run several scenarios. Carmore’s calculator allows you to change the initial payment, agreement term and buyout value, then compare the result with a realistic operating budget.

If a bank has declined the application or proposed unacceptable terms, contact us. A rejection does not guarantee that another finance provider will approve the deal, but there may be another route to examine. In many cases, it is better to match the vehicle and lease structure to the company’s actual position than to complete yet another generic bank form.
